Try a low carb diet - 30 carbs a day, if you start to feel better you can show her the information -- see www.diabetes-support.com

You can go to your local chemist and ask for a test over the counter….’super-drug’ chemists do this free of charge…or go to see your gp. Im a diabetic myself and i think your very sensible to want to check it out.

It is extremely rare for a teenager who has no weight problems to develop Type 2, so I can’t blame your mom for being skeptical. Teenagers come on here all the time listing out all these symptoms they think make them diabetic, but they turn out to be nothing. Maybe if you post another question with your symptoms, we can give you some responses to help convince your mom.

If you are 14 and not obese, it is unlikely that you have type 2 diabetes. If you are tired and thirsty and feel hungry a lot – that is typical for a teenager. If you had a chronic illness like diabetes, your mother would notice. Teens are here all the time thinking they either have diabetes or hypoglycemia. The symptoms of both are so vague that pretty much every one would feel some of the symptoms. Trust that your mother knows you well and would have you at the doctor if you were showing signs of illness.

Diet with diabetes, especially, should take into account the amount of carbohydrates consumed by humans, because the carbohydrates, the main source of glucose and, consequently, the element of power, requiring insulin.

You mum is probably right. One of the KEY factors in Type 2 Diaebtes is obesity. It is VERY rare for someone who is ‘normal’ sized to get Type 2 Diabetes.
Another problem is that the symptoms of Diabetes are the same as MANY other disease, INCLUDING PUBERTY — which, it appears, you are just entering.
You best bet would be to not worry about the Diabetes at this time. FIRST, learn to control your diet and your exercise.
STAY AWAY FROM THE JUNK FOODS. if you HAVE to have a fast-food hamburger, eat at Burger King — they flame broil, which is healthier for you. DON’T EAT FRENCH FRIES. — ever. Get a diet coke or unsweetened Iced Tea (use artifical sweetner, not sugar), not a shake.
In your daily diet at home, ELIMINATE SWEETS and other sources of sugar. Drink only DIET sodas (and no more than two a day), and never drink energy drinks, sports drinks, or pre-bottled fruit juices — they are FULL of sugar.
Cut back on starches. Eat less bread, crackers, pastas, rice, corn, and potatoes. If you want bread, eat the whole-grain variety. Eat more Cheerios and salads.
AND GET MORE EXERCISE. get into a routine where you walk at least two miles a day. Play volleyball or basketball. Ride a bike or swim.
But again, your major problem is probably puberty, not diabetes. Still, if trying this diet and exercise for 30 days doesn’t work, then you DO need to see a doctor to find out exactly what is wrong.
BTW: If you had TYPE 1 Diabetes, you would feel MUCH sicker.
AND:
Try talking to the school nurse. it may be that she can do a simple Finger Stick test to see if yoru blood suagrs are high, or she may be able to talk to your parents to convince them that you DO need to see a doctor.
